Ask Gov. Stein - VETO the Anti-Immigrant Bills, HB318 and SB 153
We are calling on community members to demand Governor Stein VETOs SB153, HB 318 and the attack on our NC immigrant communities.
What is HB 318:
HB 318 worsens the policies of the previous law, HB 10, by expanding the list of offenses that trigger citizenship checks, extending detention periods beyond the original 48 hours, and requiring last-minute communication with ICE before release. These measures increase detentions, destabilize immigrant communities, and place a burden on county jails and taxpayers.

What is SB 153:
Senate Bill 153 includes multiple provisions targeting immigrant communities in North Carolina. These provisions include:
Requiring state law enforcement agencies to enter into a 287(g) agreement with ICE.

Additional ways you can take action
Tell them to: 1) publicly oppose HB 318 2) let the Sheriffs Association know that their position must change
The NC Sheriffs Association is supporting the bill publicly and speaking in favor of it. That means that every sheriff across the state, from Orange to Durham to Buncombe to Forsyth to Wake, is implicitly supporting an anti-immigrant bill until they say otherwise.
