Oasis by Yanma

Oasis

Sand rustling

swept by the wind

hitting the body

that kept asking

where I should be going.

Barren horizon,

recurring distortion,

I stand in shifting sands.

I am a wanderer

with a faith that is starting to dry.

I am walking

without knowing

where I should be going.

A glimmer in the distance

blue, calm, an oasis claiming existence.

“Laa ilaha illallah” it’s written.

Within the landscape of my confusion.

I keep my eyes from opening

because my fear

more visible than reality unfolding

a fata morgana I might receive.

I let my hands drift

tracing each part

looking for meaning

for where the roots are coming.

I found myself breathing

a faint hope staying on the very verge of it.

I let my eyes open

at a point called surrendering.

He’s been waiting

for how I’m naming.

About The Poem

Personally, the calm and blue oasis in the poem becomes an image and symbol of hope and Divine presence in my spiritual and emotional journey—a moment when I begin to understand the meaning of 'Laa ilaha illallah'.
