  • What is Muslim Women For and what does it stand for?

Muslim Women For is the name of a non-profit based in North Carolina. Muslim Women For stands for “Muslim Women for community organizing, leadership development and grassroots organizing” We want to work on a variety of different issues so that is why we kept the name broad but at the core, the organization is run by and for Muslim women

  • When was Muslim Women For founded and where is it located?

Muslim Women For was founded in 2016 and we are based in North Carolina.

  • What is the mission of Muslim Women For?

Muslim Women For is a grassroots Muslim women-led organization that co-organizes and centers marginalized Muslim communities in North Carolina to leverage our transformative power through political and community education, cross-community solidarity, cultural work, and the development of organizers.

  • How is Muslim Women For different from other Muslim women's organizations?

Muslim Women For focuses on social justice initatives particularly increasing civic engagement in North Carolina and raising awareness on how to get civically involved. We host voter registration events and support leadership development pipelines for Muslim women. Also - we support and uplift Muslim women regardless of how they choose to practice Islam.

  • What programs and services does Muslim Women For offer?

Muslim Women For’s staff participates in political advoacy and provide advocacy trainings for Muslims across the state. We have internship and fellowship programs throughout the year for Muslim women interested in advocacy work. We have paid and volunteer phone banking and canvassing opoprtunites as well.

  • Who can benefit from Muslim Women For's services?

It is our hope that all people can benefit from Muslim Women For’s services as we seek to advocate for the most marginalized people in our communities.

  • How does Muslim Women For support Muslim women in North Carolina?

Muslim Women For supports Muslim women in North Carolina by increasing Muslim women’s awareness on issues in the community. We have a monthly newsletter that anyone can subscribe to, through that, we share opportunities to get involved. We also connect Muslim women to mutual aid resources that they might need. We create educational programming with Muslim women in mind.

  • What advocacy work does Muslim Women For do?

Each year, we have new focus areas that we work on based on the need. In 2025, our priority areas have been immigrant justice and community safety. We advocate based on those issues. We host community listening sessions, create time to speak with our elected officials and lift up concerns to them.

  • Does Muslim Women For offer educational programs or workshops?

Yes, we host trainings for Imams, religious leaders, community leaders and people that are new to community organizing. We have an organizer assigned by region and if you reach out to us, we can get you in contact with the organizer in your region to support you with planning an event or workshop.

All Black and Brown communities in North Carolina, including immigrant and Muslim communities and all the overlap that exists within that

Muslim Women For is part of many cross-faith coalitions but we do not specifically do interfaith programming

  • What social justice issues does Muslim Women For address?

While it changes every year, the issues closest to us this year have been immigrant rights, reproductive justice, voting rights and community safety.

Yes! You do not need to be Muslim or identify with any religious background to volunteer or work with us. We do ask that you at least become familiar with the Muslim community

Yes

  • What are Muslim Women For's operating hours?

Primarly 9am to 5pm, but there are many exceptions to this, please check our website to be aware of our breaks and holiday closures.

  • Does Muslim Women For offer services in languages other than English?

We create many documents and fliers in Arabic, Somali and French

  • What does Islam teach about women's rights? (addresses common misconceptions)

As community organizers and visionary leaders, we know what our rights are both in our religion and in our society. We do not exist as an organization to educate people on what Islam teaches, that is each person's journey. We invite you to conduct research on your own.

  • How does Muslim Women For address stereotypes about Muslim women?

We address stereotypes about Muslim women by being our whole, authentic selves.

  • Is Muslim Women For only for practicing Muslims?

No, this organization is for all people that identify as Muslims and all people that want to be allies of Muslims and the broader Muslim community.
