For the first issue of the Tabadul Collective Zine, we are exploring language in all its forms - written, spoken, visual etc. in relationship to how we express ourselves. This zine is dedicated to highlighting the creative voices of Black, African, Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim and South Asian individuals in North Carolina.
We are interested in work that explores how language is used to express our identities and also the ways in which language is limiting. What does it mean to be bilingual or trilingual? Does it isolate you from one tongue but create community in others? What’s your primary language? Do you use words or visuals to communicate or is it something completely different? Is language static or is it dynamic? What is the purpose of language and how has it served us historically?
We are accepting unpublished visual and written submissions including: art, posters, photography, poetry, fiction, essays or a combination of these things. Submissions are accepted in English and beyond. Submission guidelines can be found in our highlights. If you are unsure about your submission, feel free to contact us via email (tabadulcollective@gmail.com) or DM!
